About AutoAbility

AutoAbility is the most recent addition to the family of Clarkston Motors companies. Clarkston Motors is a corporation with a recognized history of excellence, having established benchmark standards in the automotive industry for over 25 years. From auto body and collision repair to new and pre-owned vehicle sales, Clarkston Motors always has focused on offering excellent customer service while providing high quality products at the most competitive prices possible. Over the past quarter century, Clarkston Motors, Inc. has generated over $500,000,000 in revenue as a vital part of the automotive and transportation industries.

While searching for new opportunities that would best utilize the vast automotive experience of the managers and staff at Clarkston Motors, the company evaluated many different business models. The Clarkston Motors team looked at factors such as long-term sustainability and future market growth potential in a variety of customer service-focused industries.  It didn't take team members long to realize that the company's assets, skills and history perfectly positioned it for success in one particular industry: Mobility.

The current state of America's mobility industry offers tremendous growth potential for a company desiring to focus both on producing the industry's highest quality vehicles and on setting the industry standard in customer service.  These key factors aligned perfectly with the track record established by Clarkston Motors during its 25-year automotive industry history.  AutoAbility was created with a very simple plan: take an industry with a good history and give it a great future.

AutoAbility's success in acquiring existing "Best in Class" designs has allowed the company to immediately begin producing the widest rear-entry wheelchair vehicles on the market today.  The AutoAbility Dodge and Chrysler rear-entry van provides a full 35-inch opening and a 34-inch-wide ramp system. This vehicle passed a 50-mile-per-hour rear-end crash test with flying colors and was the first vehicle of its kind on the market to meet current ADA standards.

AutoAbility's state-of-the-art 30,000-square-foot facility, located in the heart of Oakland County's  Automation Alley, has provided the company with access to an abundance of highly skilled and experienced personnel. Its quality-focused conversion process was planned and installed by Ray Waechter, an industrial engineer with over 35 years of production planning experience at General Motors.

Setting AutoAbility far ahead of mobility industry competition is the company's "Five Star" world headquarters building in Clarkston, Michigan. Both its production facility and its first retail and service location, known as Clarkston Mobility, are housed at the AutoAbility world headquarters. By combining this showcase retail outlet with its corporate offices and production facility, AutoAbility has a clear competitive advantage in the marketplace. Company officials gain first-hand knowledge of customers' needs and concerns in the Clarkston Mobility showroom, allowing them to develop hands-on industry benchmark customer service standards for retail dealers. These strict service standards, combined with mobility products that already are considered the most reliable and durable in the industry, assure the AutoMobility customer a truly "Five Star" ownership experience.

Hear What Our Customers Have to Say

?This is our first experience using Autoability and it has definitely been a very successful one at that.  We were extremely pleased with the professionalism and detailed work that we received from Mike LeClear, our saleman.  He was a pleasure to work with on all levels ? knowing how certain procedures needed to be followed (MDOT, ADA, etc) and was very good at communicating with us on a regular basis during the process.  We expect that any warranty or other technical issues will be handled with the same amount of professional response that we have received so far.  We will welcome the opportunity to work with Autoability and Mr. LeClear any day!?

We purchased an AutoAbility van back in June of 2010, not knowing how the customers and drivers would take to it, being that they are used to using the buses, we figured we would give it a try.  It was a big hit!!!  Drivers like it because they can get into places where the buses can?t.  The boarding and de-boarding of passengers on the lift takes no time and is so easy.  The Passengers like it because they feel safer, when they board the van on the lift they just drive right in instead of being lifted up in the air.  It?s a nice quiet and smooth ride.

Dear Mike,

L.E.T.S. was a recipient of President Obama?s stimulus funding to provide quality, efficient, and effective transportation to the residents of Livingston County. As director, I was able to purchase much needed ramp-equipped mini-vans.

With that being said, I, on many occasions met with you at different MDOT conferences over the past several years and made sure you were included in the bids to convert our locally purchase MY 2010 Dodge Grand Caravans because of the quality of your product. Through our bid process your company was awarded the bid for the conversions and I must say that you were very easy to work with from beginning through delivery. The only issue that we had was the availability of the electric winch that was no longer available, but this is where you went into action and found another source without missing a beat.

Once delivered you and your people took the time to train the L.E.T.S. driver trainer on how to operate all the conversion equipment. Every driver could not believe how easy it was to operate and how much of a time saver loading a person in a wheelchair with your conversion.

Now that the mini-vans have been in operation for several months now, the driver?s love them; we have not had on warranty issue or any problems or issues. The obvious commitment to a quality product has made me grateful that there is a company right here in Michigan that prides themselves on a job well done.

If in the future I need any additional conversions, it is my hope that you will once again be awarded the bid.

Sincerely,
Douglas J. Britz
